Why choose Ubiquiti UniFi instead of Ring or Verkada?
Ring can be a good fit for a simple DIY doorbell or one-camera setup. Verkada is a capable cloud-managed commercial platform, but it commonly uses recurring licensing. UniFi is built for customers who want hardwired PoE cameras, local recording, a serious network and one platform they own and can expand. It is a larger upfront investment, but it avoids building your property around several consumer apps and recurring per-camera software costs.
Does UniFi Protect have every AI alert?
We do not sell a one-size-fits-all AI promise. Compatible cameras can provide smart person and vehicle detections, and zones help limit events to the areas you care about. Certain advanced functions - such as additional AI-assisted search, recognition or audio features - require the appropriate camera series or optional AI hardware. During the walkthrough, we recommend only the features that match your property and goals.
Are there mandatory monthly fees or software licenses?
No mandatory monthly monitoring fee, per-camera license or per-user license is required for a standard local UniFi Protect setup. You buy the hardware, and recordings stay on your local UniFi console or UNVR. Optional monitoring, service or future cloud services may be separate, but they are not required for your cameras to record and work.
Can I view cameras and manage the system from my phone?
Yes. We configure the UniFi Protect app so you can view live video, review recordings and receive alerts remotely. We also hand off the system properly: you receive access, a walkthrough and clear guidance on the controls you will actually use.
Will the system stay current after installation?
Ubiquiti releases ongoing software and device updates. We start with a clean configuration, documented equipment and backups, then use appropriate official release updates rather than treating your investment as frozen on installation day. Updates are valuable, but we use a sensible approach - not blind changes to a system you depend on.
Can UniFi support a smart home or commercial building?
Yes. A strong UniFi network is an excellent backbone for connected devices because it combines reliable WiFi, wired connections, managed switching and security controls in one system. For businesses, we design coverage and recording around the property: offices, retail, warehouses and managed locations can add cameras, access points, racks, gateways and optional door access as needed.
Can you use my existing camera cable?
Often, yes. We inspect existing cable, terminations and pathways first. If it meets the standard for a reliable PoE installation, reusing it may save time and cost. If it is not dependable, we explain the issue before recommending replacement.
What Long Island towns do you serve?
